In 2009, the Italian pianist Alessandro Taverna (b.1983) created a huge impression in achieving second prize at the London International Piano Competition and third place in Leeds, where his playing was described as 'suffused with grave beauty and poetry'. Now well established in the international circuit, Alessandro makes his Bridgewater Hall debut with a programme marking the bi-centenary of the great romantic pianist-composer. He plays three of Liszt's most original piano works alongside his sumptuous transcription from Wagner.
