Last year's Liszt celebration echoes in today's recital, in which we welcome back the fine Swedish pianist Martyn Sturfält. Since his last Mid-day concert, Martin has recorded the complete piano works of fellow countryman Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871 – 1927) and has appeared in concert throughout Europe. A concise gem by Mozart is followed by three short preludes by the Estonian emigré Eduard Tubin (1905-1982), who fled to Stockholm in 1944. Scriabin's eight-minute Black Mass Sonata is one of his most highly 'perfumed' late works.

Concert given in memory of Mrs Erica Iball.
