THE MANCHESTER MID-DAY CONCERTS SOCIETY
2011/2012 SEASON at
THE BRIDGEWATER
HALL
In October this year we celebrate the bi-centenary of the
birth of one of the greatest composer-pianists, certainly the most flamboyant,
Franz Liszt. Six months later the centenary of Kathleen Ferrier, one of the 20th
Century's best loved singers and a Lancashire lass who graced the Mid-day
stage on a number of occasions during her all too short career. We are
delighted that Leeds International Piano Competition finalist, Alessandro
Taverna, will be making his Bridgewater Hall debut with an all-Liszt programme,
while the fine English contralto Diana Moore will be performing part of her
Ferrier tribute programme.
We are delighted to be continuing our fruitful
collaborations with the Musicians' Benevolent Fund and the Young Concert
Artists’ Trust. These two organisations have a long and distinguished history
of supporting the studies and early careers of outstanding young professional
musicians. The Mid-day Concerts Society is proud to be able to provide a
platform for their work in Manchester.
The quality of young chamber ensembles emerging from our
conservatoires is very high at the moment. We reflect that in the appearance of
three outstanding emerging groups, the Finzi Quartet, currently Junior Fellows
at the RNCM, the wind quintet Souza Winds and the Absolution Saxophone Quartet.
Over the Christmas and New Year period, we are thrilled to
be able to offer you some intriguing seasonal fare, Three outstanding students
from Chethams School of Music (including former BBC
Young Musician, Peter Moore) will be delighting us in early December, our
Christmas concert will showcase the Argentine Tango with instrumental ensemble,
Tango Volcano and dancers, Richard Manuel and Pauline Reibell and we begin the
second half of the season in January with a recital by one of the country's
leading guitarists, and Manchester favourite, Craig Ogden.
I hope you enjoy the season and I look forward to seeing
you.
Paul
Hindmarsh (Director of Concerts)
